Industrial > Conceptual Design
We can work in close cooperation with you or work independently within parameters set by you to turn complex ideas into a technically viable reality with our team's knowledge and expertise. The extensive engineering disciplines and expertise which we have in-house allows us to put together innovative and well thought-out concepts, whether it is for large complex machinery or for simple systems. By having expertise in many engineering fields and industries, we can provide an integrated and seamless engineering service. We are able to manage a complete project from conceptual design right through to release of manufacturing drawings and on-going support for existing systems.
Walking Excavator
The walking excavator was designed to showcase the engineering skills and expertise of AEDesign. The concept was to create a new style of excavator that would be able to operate on extremely rough or wet terrain and steep slopes, where the traditional crawler-type excavator cannot operate as effectively.
Rather than have the conventional chassis or crawler type undercarriage system, the walking excavator is based on a chassis with four independently moving legs, each with multiple degrees of freedom. The front two legs have wheels and stabilising outriggers, while the rear legs only have wheels to provide propulsion. The operator cabin is positioned to provide unobstructed driver visibility and comfort. Additionally the cabin is fully compliant with ISO 12117-2:2008 for ROPS (Roll Over Protective Structure) and ISO 3449 for FOPS (Falling Object Protective Structure) to ensure complete driver safety to the highest international standards. This excavator is extremely versatile, is able to operate on challenging terrain and does not cause unnecessary environmental degradation because of its relatively low ground pressure.
Structural Design
Structural design involved working from basic design planning to the finished product assemblies, their CAD models and technical illustrations. The major areas of structural design are:
- Mathematical Modelling & Geometric Design
Our engineers use mathematical and geometric modelling tools to analyse and optimize systems. They are used throughout the engineering process from conceptual design and layout of products, through strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies to defining manufacturing methods of components.
- 3D Modelling
Our design team uses state of the art 3D technologies to transform ideas and concepts into visual imagery, to test its functionality.
- Design for Assembly and Manufacturability
We consider each small detail when designing any part of a system. Each part or subsystem may be manufactured by a number of processes; we consider all possibilities before selecting the most effective and suitable process. In addition to ease of manufacturing, we also ensure that all designs can be easily and quickly assembled in the most efficient way.
- Mechanism Design
Mechanisms in the assembly are analysed and their vibration analysis is done. Software used includes MSc ADAMS/View and MSc Nastran/Patran.
